MP-to-be Tin Pei Ling to hold consultation sessions to ‘engage’ the youth

Marine Parade MP-to-be Ms Tin Pei Ling has unveiled her ‘comprehensive plan’ for MacPherson ward during her maiden speech at a PAP rally last night. (watch video here)

Besides starting wellness programmes to ensure that the elderly has access to amenities and basic needs, Ms Tin will also kickstart a series of consultation sessions to engage the ‘youth’ and to empower them to act on their ideas.

“I will also raise resources and install energy-saving light bulbs for our low income families because in the long run it will help them save on cost for utilities,” she added.

The 27 year old Ms Tin was obstensibly ‘offered’ to Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong by PM Lee to help win votes from young Singaporeans.

Unfortunately, the plan appeared to have backfired dramatically as Singaporeans take issue with her apparent lack of substance and ties to PM Lee whose principal private secretary was her husband.

Ms Tin was flamed mercilessly for weeks by irate netizens and a Facebook page “I do not want Tin Pei Ling in parliament” has more ‘likes’ than her personal Facebook page.

Despite the online popularity of Ms Tin’s opponent Nicole Seah, conservative Singapore voters are likely to vote for the PAP again in Marine Parade GRC due to the presence of Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

With the two opposition MPs contesting in GRCs, it is very likely that the PAP will win all the 82 seats contested and Singaporeans will have NO opposition MP in parliament to speak up for them for the first time since 1981.

It seems that Ms Tin will be having the last laugh after all on 7 May 2011.
