PM Lee: GE is about who can ‘look after’ Singapore

With public anger against the ruling PAP at an all-time high, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong now warns Singaporeans not to treat GE as ‘playing a game’ as if Singaporeans are an immature lot.

Speaking to reporters after a community event yesterday, PM Lee said:

“There are a lot of arguments and debates, firing on both sides every time there is an election and that is in the nature of contests. But it is worthwhile remembering this is not over who wins the argument.”

The PAP is on a defensive following increasing questions and doubts about its performance in the last five years which has seen stagnant income and a widening income gap between the rich and the poor.

“This is over who can do better for Singapore and Singaporeans, who can look after the future better and make this a place which will be with more opportunities, more secure lives, with more prosperous economy and stable society for you and your children, and that is what is at stake when you go to the polls and that is what you have to decide,” he added.

Without having proper debate and argument, how are voters going to decide for themselves who can do better for Singapore?

Based on the PAP’s track record since 2006, Singaporeans should decide for themselves whether they can still trust PAP leaders to look after their interest in the next five years ahead.
