Grace Fu: PAP ministers are not out of touch with the ground

Posted by singaporege2011 on April 25, 2011

Senior Minister of State for National Development and Education Grace Fu said ministers are not out of touch with ground sentiments following growing criticisms at their arrogance and aloofness.

“I am not out of touch with the ground. And I don’t think our ministers are out of touch with the ground. Our ministers work very very hard…they spend a lot of time with their residents. But there are decisions that we have to do that is for the overall good of Singapore,” she proclaimed.

She added that the PAP minister believe the decisions they made are in the ‘best interest’ of Singaporeans.

“They may be tough decisions but we believe that they are in the best interest of Singaporeans. So we have convince; it’s our job to communicate and convince Singaporeans of the rationale behind those policies. But we’re not out of touch.”

Grace Fu was rapped last year for lending her support to a ‘Water Festival’ event for the Burmese and Thais living in her constituency and asking Singaporeans to ‘welcome’ the foreigners to make them feel at home in Singapore.

PAP strongman Lee Kuan Yew proclaimed recently that Singapore still needs some 900,000 foreign workers on work permit for the ‘overall good’ of Singapore and in the best interests of Singaporeans, whether they like it or not.
