The Reform Party is likely to contest in Ang Mo Kio GRC helmed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in the coming general election, according to party Secretary-General Kenneth Jeyaretnam.

Two members of the RP team for Ang Mo Kio may include Mr Alex Tan and Mr Jay Ting from the Singapore People’s Party.

Mr Tan has earlier floated the idea of contesting in Ang Mo Kio GRC to his party, but was rejected.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his team won only 66.1 percent of the valid votes in the 2006 general election against a rookie Workers’ Party team, below the national average of 66.6 percent.

In the meantime, Socialist Front Chairman Ng Teck Siong is planning to contest Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew’s team at Tanjong Pagar GRC, together with members from the Singapore Democratic Alliance.

The opposition is planning to contest in all the constituencies at the coming polls which will be a first in the history of Singapore.

With public anger against the PAP regime at a historic high, it faces its toughest electoral contest to date against a resurgent opposition whose ranks are boosted by the entry of several highly qualified credible candidates.
