PAP MP does not know what bus service runs in his ward

Posted by singaporege2011 on April 20, 2011

A PAP MP was asked by a resident to write a letter to request for a re-route of a bus service, but the letter was sent to the wrong bus company instead:

The embarrassing error was detected by the resident who uploaded the letter to TR Facebook.

Grace Wu, the Vice-President from SBS Transit wrote a reply that the service was under the purview of SMRT and advised the resident to forward his request to SMRT instead. The same letter was CC to the MP.

The mistake is not surprising as most PAP MPs are multi-millionaires who live in private houses and drive to work. Hardly any of them take public transport and hence it is impossible for understand the problems and frustrations faced daily by commuters.

Replying to a question as to whether PAP ministers and MPs are out of touch with the ground at a recent CNA Forum, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said they know what is going on in their constituencies through their grassroots work.

PAP ministers and MPs are the highest paid in the world. A MP earns $14,000 monthly for what is essentially a part-time job. There is a rising publc sentiment that the PAP MPs are living high up in their own ivory towers and completely out of touch with the common man in the street.

Singaporeans should not be deceived by the latest ‘wayang’ walkabouts conducted by the PAP MPs ahead of the coming general election to win their votes. Once the election is over, they will be back into ‘hibernation’ mode again while counting their MP allowances happily in the comforts of their homes.
