Tin Pei Ling and Dr Janil to ‘contest’ in Marine Parade and Pasir Ris-Punggol GRCs

Posted by singaporege2011 on April 19, 2011

Despite growing public pressure on PAP newbie candidate Tin Pei Ling to stand in a single ward, the PAP has ignored the views and voices of Singaporeans and fielded her in Marine Parade GRC.

27 year old Ms Tin has come under heavy criticisms of late by netizens for her apparent lack of substance and empathy. An online petition was set up a week ago calling on her to stand in a single seat.

Many Singaporeans are angry at the prospect of Ms Tin entering parliament via Marine Parade GRC helmed by Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong instead of on her own merits.

Singapore MPs are the highest paid lawmakers in the world. A MP earns about $14,000 monthly for what is essentially a part-time job. In contrast, the median income of an average Singapore worker is only $2,500 monthly.

Another unpopular candidate Dr Janil Puthucheary will be contesting in Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean’s GRC of Pasir Ris-Punggol.

Born in Malaysia, Dr Janil sparked a massive outcry when he commented nonchalantly that he has served ‘National Service’ as a doctor ‘saving kids’ lives.’

Though he has been staying in Singapore for more than 10 years, he only took up Singapore citizenship two years ago after 35 years of age.

Till today, Dr Janil still hasn’t explained the reasons behind his ‘sudden’ foray into Singapore politics.

Singapore voters should remember that a vote for the PAP is a vote for Tin Pei Ling and Dr Janil as well. Together with the other new candidates, the duo were praised as potential ministers in the making by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

I think that voters should vote for the opposition (if they present excellent proposals) and it would be wonderful to see the PAP losing Marine Parade. People at the top, people who are CLIMBing through connections to reach the top, people who may not care much about the people who truly require assistance but are busy enjoying 14k per mth on a part-time job, ought to look down from their ivory towers and be taken down a peg or two, and what better way to do it then to make them lose something? Sorry, but it’s time Singaporeans (those who have the rare chance to VOTE)have a voice!!! Losing a GRC would be a good wakeup call stating that we, the citizens of Singapore are not going to be manipulated by underhanded dictatorship.
